The Bob Rogers Group is a privately funded organization devoted to promoting the growth of the arts and artists throughout the world.
Founded in 1996 in Murray, Kentucky, the BRG initially began as an experimental theatre troop (called the Bob Rogers Arts Group (BRAG), performing free plays for the public through it's Main Stage Productions division. After producing several successful productions, the Group began to change directions, soon becoming involved in event productions and the promotion of local musicians through it's 7th Street Music division. Over the next two years the BRG became a successful production company of the loosest definition. Often taking on several different projects at once, the Group received a reputation of quality and respectability from artists in the community. The BRG also began transforming from a small theatre troop with local goals into becoming an equal opportunity artists organization with a larger vision. By working with local producers of visual, written, physical, vocal, and instrumental art, the Group was able further artists work and create a better understand of art in the community. After a reconstruction period in the first part of 1999 the BRG relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina with a more refined goal; to promote the arts nationally and eventually globally. While in Raleigh, the Group, in association with Barnes and Noble, sponsored the Raleigh Stage and Screenwriters Guild (now the Bob Rogers Stage and Screen writing Workshop), a workshop designed to help aspiring stage and screenwriters develop their craft and hone their skills in an intimate setting. In the spring of 2000 the BRG once again expanded into new directions with a motion picture production division, Virginia Pictures. A comedy, "Road Signs: The Movie" became the first film from the division, eventually playing at numerous film festivals across the nation. In 2002 the BRG moved to it's current home in Louisville, Kentucky. Since that time Virginia Pictures has continued producing high quality, award winning films, 7th Street Music has continued working with aspiring musicians and the BRG as a whole has continued expanding on its initial vision of expanding the arts to the public. The BRG has expanded it's reach even further in the new century with creation of several new divisions. The Derby City Film Festival is Louisville's largest independent international film festival of all genres. Fried Films and No Budget Studios both help to promote and create content of both an experimental nature and with limited funding. The weekly Derby City Film Chat podcast, which ran from 2009 - 2010, helped to promote independent filmmakers and help bring their work to a broader national audience. And in 2012 JKH publishing will begin producing literary works that may not otherwise find distribution. Through these divisions and many events and other outlets the BRG hopes to continue it's goal and vision of expanding the arts in all their mediums to a rapidly expanding and growing audience for decades to come. |
